D Rings
D Rings
The D Ring Picture Hanger is a versatile and popular choice among framers, D Rings vary in size, finish, and use. Screw this small piece of framing hardware into the back of a frame (as a pair) and attach Cord or Wire. They are the most common way to hang a picture frame as they offer a more robust hanging solution than a simple nail but remain easy to install and effective. They are available in three finishes; nickel, brass, or bronze plated with a choice of one, two, or three holes.
How to use a D Ring
In some cases where the frame is too narrow it isn't possible to screw a D Ring into the wood moulding. Instead, attach them to the backing board using bifurcated rivets. Choosing the right D Ring for the job depends on the weight and size of the item you want to hang. For particularly heavy frames and mirrors we recommend using Heavy Duty D Rings formed from stainless steel. Use two per frame, each should have a load capacity higher than the weight of the frame. Some are formed from one single piece of metal, this makes it impossible to open under load. When a frame falls it is often down to the screw or nail coming loose from the wall, not the failure of the hanging hardware or cord. Ensure you use the correct screws or nails for the job.
